Nepali Congress Briefs Party Officials on Power-Sharing Agreement with CPN-UML
Today, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba convened a meeting at his Budhanilkantha residence, briefing party officials on the recently reached agreement with the CPN-UML. He outlined the terms of the agreement, emphasizing that leadership of the government formed under this pact would alternate between the two parties. While the initial leader remains undecided, sources suggest CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli is slated to assume the first term, followed by Deuba.
Nepali Congress spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat addressed the press, underscoring the agreement's importance in safeguarding democracy from potential political instability. He affirmed that the government formation process would prioritize national consensus and include other interested parties.
Moreover, Mahat highlighted plans to pursue constitutional amendments aimed at solidifying political stability, drawing on past experiences for guidance. He announced an upcoming meeting of the performance committee scheduled for Wednesday at 9 am to endorse the agreement with CPN-UML.
Following the session, Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak affirmed the government's formation would adhere to constitutional provisions, specifically referencing Article 76(2). Should circumstances dictate otherwise, he assured adherence to due constitutional process.
