The Nepali Congress (NC) has called for the resignation of Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar following allegations of inappropriate conduct. The decision emerged from a top-leaders' meeting held on Wednesday, where the party criticized Rana Magar for her action of requesting visa facilitation from the US Embassy for individuals unrelated to her official duties.

In February 2023, Deputy Speaker Rana Magar had sent a letter to the US Embassy seeking expedited interviews for five individuals, including four men and one woman, for the 67th session of the UN's ‘Commission on the Status of Women’. Although the request did not lead to any visas being granted, the letter was leaked recently, sparking a significant controversy.

The matter was also discussed during a coalition partners' meeting at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar on Monday evening. During the parliamentary session on Tuesday, MPs from both opposition and ruling parties expressed divergent views on Rana Magar's actions.
