The main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), has decided to submit a collective amendment proposal for the Investment Facilitation Bill. This decision emerged from a meeting of the NC parliamentary party held in Singha Durbar on Wednesday. The meeting involved consultations with entrepreneurs, industrialists, and investors.

House of Representatives member Nagina Yadav, who attended the meeting, mentioned that the amendment proposal seeks legal reforms to make the bill more investment-friendly. The proposal, to be registered on behalf of the NC parliamentary party, incorporates recommendations from industrialists, entrepreneurs, and investors.

The proposed amendments focus on eight key areas, including land ceiling, land acquisition, forest management, public-private partnership investment, and the Special Economic Zone. As a party committed to liberal democracy, the NC aims to explore flexible measures to attract foreign investment.

The decision to pursue amendments follows complaints from entrepreneurs who felt their inputs and recommendations were not addressed in the bill. NC's assistant general secretary noted that the party routinely consults with experts and stakeholders on various bills, and the entrepreneurs emphasized the need for substantial reforms in the investment facilitation bill during these discussions. Chiefs and representatives from the umbrella organization of industrialists and entrepreneurs participated in the consultations on behalf of the business community.
