Nepal's Electric Vehicle Imports Plummet to 276 Units in Falgun, Significant Drop from Previous Months
Nepal has witnessed a significant downturn in the importation of electric cars, jeeps, and vans, marking a notable departure from the previously observed upward trend.
Data from the Department of Customs (DoC) reveals that during the Nepali month of Falgun, only 276 units of electric vehicles (EVs) were imported, with the majority originating from China, contrasting sharply with the over 1,000 units imported during the preceding month of Magh.
This decline in import figures, especially in comparison to fossil fuel vehicle imports, suggests a potential shift in consumer preferences or market conditions. While the import of EVs during the current fiscal year totaled 6,159 units, generating significant government revenue, the stark contrast with fossil fuel vehicle imports, which amounted to 4,663 units up to Falgun, underscores a changing landscape in the Nepali automotive market. Moreover, the continued importation of bikes and scooters, with 81,729 units imported up to Falgun, further highlights the diverse dynamics at play in the Nepali automotive industry.
