NEPSE to Remain Closed Today, Govt Declares Public Holiday on The Occasion of Buddha Jayanti

The Government of Nepal has announced a public holiday for Thursday (today) i.e. on the 10th of Jestha on the occasion of the 'Buddha Jayanti'.

Nepal Stock Exchange Limited (NEPSE) will remain closed to mark Buddha Jayanti. Regular trading will resume in NEPSE from Sunday (13th Jestha, 2081) at 11:00 AM.

Yesterday, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index saw a gain of 0.73%, or 15.54 points, settling at 2,131.49 points.

Buddha Jayanti, also known as Buddha Purnima or Vesak, is a significant Buddhist festival that celebrates the birth, enlightenment, and death (nirvana) of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha. This auspicious day typically falls on the full moon in April or May. Devotees observe Buddha Jayanti by visiting gumbas, offering prayers, meditating, and reflecting on the Buddha's teachings. The day is marked by rituals such as lighting lamps, chanting, and making offerings of flowers and incense. It's a time for Buddhists to reaffirm their commitment to the path of wisdom, compassion, and peace.
