The Government of Nepal has announced a public holiday for Wednesday (today), the 7th Falgun, during the 'Prajatantra Diwas'.
Nepal Stock Exchange Limited (NEPSE) will remain closed to mark Prajatantra Diwas or Democracy Day. Regular trading will resume in NEPSE from Thursday (Falgun 08, 2081) at 11:00 AM.
"Prajatantra Diwas" translates to "Democracy Day" in Nepal. It is a significant day in the country's history as it marks the establishment of democracy and the end of the autocratic Rana regime in 1951. The day is celebrated annually on Falgun 07. On this day, the people of Nepal commemorate the victory of democracy over autocracy and the establishment of a more representative form of government. The celebration includes various events, ceremonies, and activities reflecting the country's democratic journey and the importance of democratic principles.
