New 33/11 kV Substation Constructed in Jajarkot to Boost Electrification in the Region
A new electricity transmission line substation with a capacity of 33/11 kV has been successfully constructed in Chaukha, Nalgad Municipality-12 of Jajarkot. The substation, built with an investment of NPR 100 million from the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), is expected to significantly enhance the power supply in the region.
Waiba Infra-tech Pvt Ltd, the firm responsible for the construction, signed an agreement with NEA to complete the project. According to Karun Shahi, Senior Surveyor at Waiba Infra-tech, the substation is set to be charged within a month. Initially, the electricity required for this will be sourced from the Bafikot substation due to delays in connecting the transmission line from Kudu in Jajarkot to Chaukha.
The ongoing delays in the extension of the transmission line in the Jajarkot section have necessitated the use of power from the Bafikot substation. However, the construction of the Chaukha substation has intensified public pressure on authorities to expedite the completion of the transmission line in the Jajarkot section. The substation is strategically located near the powerhouse of the Taksugad Hydropower Project.
Once operational, the Chaukha substation will play a crucial role in powering the 106-megawatt Jagadulla Hydroelectricity Project and the upcoming substation in Tripurakot, Dolpa. The NEA Karnali Province Office stated that the Chaukha substation will facilitate electrification in the lower belt of Dolpa and most areas of eastern Jajarkot, addressing the region's long-standing power supply issues.
