Nirmal Purja Sets New Record: Fastest to Conquer All 14 Peaks Above 8,000 Meters Without Oxygen
Nirmal Purja, widely known as 'Nims,' has shattered yet another mountaineering record by becoming the fastest individual to summit all 14 of the world’s highest peaks, each standing over 8,000 meters, without the use of supplemental oxygen.
Purja reached the summit of Shishapangma in Tibet at 1:55 PM Nepali time on Friday, marking the completion of this incredible feat. This achievement stands out as he conquered all these towering summits in just two and a half years, a new global benchmark for mountaineers.
Despite facing tough weather conditions, Purja and his climbing partner, Mingma Sherpa, successfully completed the ascent. "This accomplishment sends a powerful message in the mountaineering world—when Nepalis set their minds to something, they can achieve it," Purja shared.
He took to social media to express his appreciation for Mingma, who has been his steadfast companion throughout their climbs. Both are also key figures in the mountaineering company The Elite Exped, where they continue to make waves in the climbing community.
