Personal stories during Covid-19 lockdown; Letting Social Media be Learning and Teaching Platform

Tue, May 5, 2020 7:11 AM on Exclusive,

Hi! I am Parul Chachan, an MBA student; who used to stay occupied throughout the day, with regular classes in the morning and getting involved in the business for the rest of the day. Apart from this, I am also a passive investor who is not much enthusiast about the share market.

I am an ambivert person by nature, who can flip into being an introvert and extrovert depending on my mood. Initially during the lockdown days, I used to remain occupied throughout the day, but was not doing anything productive. I would spend much of my time on facebook feeds, news, and online games and get myself stressed at the end of the day sensing competition all around through others’ posts and stories.

Going through the news, one regular lockdown day, I became aware that this situation (lockdown period) would continue for quite a long time. I thought of wisely using this time working on my weaknesses and enhance the already built skills. I started enhancing my dancing and cooking skills, upgraded my workout routine and timings. I even started learning new set of skills like doodling, painting and crafts. This helped me remain mentally and physically active throughout the day.

I am also a member of a club, of which I would rarely attend the meetings and events held earlier. But now, I am able to regularly attend the meetings and trainings being scheduled online either from club or the college. Being occupied with different activities throughout the day, I came to notice one of my weaknesses i.e. investment on share. I then thought this to be the right time to study, research and analyze the stock market. Now as I am free and have abundant time, I go through multiple investment videos of analysts on YouTube. I look after companies profile, their technical analysis, moving average, 180 day average, pivot analysis, market overview, investment overview on one of the leading site for Nepalese investors i.e. ShareSansar.com . It is one of the best platforms that benefit the already existing as well as the new investors through the huge data and information that it stores. One can remain updated regarding the upcoming issues, rights and all the necessary announcements through their site. With all this I am also understanding the factors implying behind the rise and fall in the share price. I am preparing myself for the further investments that can be done once the stock market normalizes.

Thus, from letting social media develop competitive sense and disturb my mental health to utilize the time spent on it positively and wisely, I have learned to let social media be learning and teaching platform. I even learned to prioritize my learning needs, ignore the pressure to stand out on others expectations and not be the part of crowd following the hustle culture. I eventually feel delighted rebuilding my old hobbies, investing on my knowledge and making a path to execute the goals that I dreamt of.
