Personal stories during Covid-19 lockdown; You are not alone!

While the “fitting of world into a hand” notion was gaining popularity, COVID-19 has proven that it was not always true. Globalization made us feel that we can reach any corners of the world in anytime we want but had we known that meeting a close friend 10 minutes away from our home would be a dream someday, maybe we wouldn’t take the privilege for granted. We have been brought up in a busy society. Going school, engaging in assignments and being engaged in outside world most of the times has made us feel that it is our life and we search identity not in ourselves but in those environment we interact with.

This lockdown has, thus, disturbed us psychologically and made us go insane. Trust me, if you are feeling this, you are not alone. Human beings are social beings. However, we remember the first part and forget the second. We are a being and the being is the soul. In the process of being social, we have diluted our being. We all know this and it is not a completely new philosophy. Despite knowing all this, I myself am going through a very difficult mental phase. This lockdown has brought a vast change in our lifestyle. Everyday feels monotonous because I have been repeating the same thing every day. Life feels purposeless because a tiny virus could destroy the human system that has been going on for years and years. And there is a constant fear of I don’t know what in my mind. I have been talking to a lot of people and started meditating as well. Well, meditating has helped lessen the mental pain to some extent but not a complete heals. Maybe it’s because everything takes time. This phase is scary but I know that I am not the only one going through this and hence I sat to write this article.

Despite all these, there are positive aspects too. I was never the kind of person who would love doing household works but with lockdown I have been engaging myself in these chores. I would never have time for meditation due to hectic university schedule (that was the excuse) but now I have a chance to explore this as well. Well, here is a chance to learn so many free online courses. I have started with Python because one of my closest friends asked me to but I am still too lazy to engage myself in learning programming though I have started. So, this patch of life is not easy. And trust me, the mental pain is much heavier than what you can imagine while reading this but thanks to my seniors, friends and family who have been there for support and hopefully with the end of lockdown, it will end too. The only thing we can rely on is faith and we can hope that this faith will heal every pain.

This phase is also a reminder that life doesn’t work as you have planned it. I always wondered how people could be depressed or sad and there is so much in this world to celebrate. I had always been grateful for being alive but this lockdown has given answer to my question and it has brought to light that your mental health can go out of your hand. But it’s okay because this is life. Happiness and Sadness are two banks of this river of life. If one bank doesn’t exist, the river goes out of control. Well, I am still trying to find happiness in this and trying to walk gracefully out of this situation. Well, that may take time but I will certainly regain happiness and win this mental battle. I hope this helps you as well to know that you are not alone in this and many people I have talked to are going through similar phase. We can win over COVID-19 and this mental battle together!
