The supply of petroleum products in the Kathmandu Valley has been significantly disrupted due to a protest by the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association. On Sunday, long queues were observed at government-operated petrol stations, while private pumps have been closed since Monday morning.

Many private sector pumps displayed 'no petrol' signs, causing substantial inconvenience to the public. The tanker drivers initiated their agitation on Sunday, presenting a seven-point demand. Their demands include the issuance of appointment letters for all drivers and co-drivers in accordance with the Labor Act, salary arrangements as mandated by the Nepal government, cancellation of double bank guarantees and annual renewals for self-employed drivers, proper temperature management, inclusion in the social security fund, and provision of risk allowances.

As a result of the drivers' protest, the supply of petroleum products to private-sector pumps has been halted, although government-run pumps continue to receive supplies. Nepal Oil Corporation has invited the drivers for negotiations to resolve the issue.

This ongoing disruption highlights the critical need for addressing the grievances of the tanker drivers to ensure a stable supply of petroleum products in the Kathmandu Valley.
