PM Dahal Pledges to Uphold Constitution, Seeks Vote of Confidence Amid Criticism Over Political Priorities
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the constitution, asserting that the CPN (Maoist Centre) will not undermine it nor allow others to do so. Addressing the House of Representatives today while seeking a vote of confidence, he emphasized the significant role the Maoist Centre played in the constitution's creation through the Constituent Assembly.
The Prime Minister stated that, as per the constitution, he has a month to seek a vote of trust and assured that his party will continue to defend the constitution steadfastly. "The Maoist Centre has invested heavily in this constitution. Therefore, we will neither weaken it nor let it be weakened," he declared.
He further emphasized the constitution's foundation on the decade-long revolt and subsequent movements advocating for the rights of oppressed classes, regions, genders, and communities, asserting that it will continue to be defended with the people's support.
In his address, PM Prachanda also lamented that the political focus has shifted to changing the government instead of prioritizing relief and rescue operations amidst landslides and floods affecting various parts of the country. He expressed disappointment that political parties are engaged in government change rather than addressing the immediate needs of the affected people.
The Prime Minister made these remarks before presenting a proposal to the House of Representatives under Rule 155 of the HoR Regulations, 2079, seeking a vote of confidence in line with Article 100 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal. The House is expected to decide on the proposal today.
