Lawmakers have drawn the attention of the government to not bring the bill relating to the national identity card and registration without ensuring infrastructure of information technology. If it is hurried, it would be no more than a waste, they argued.

Speaking at the meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Wednesday, the lawmakers reiterated that without preparing required technology, the allocated budget of Rs 7.52 billion would be a mere misuse.

Prem Suwal underscored the need to prepare base for issuing national identity card.

Similarly, Dilendra Badu said thorough study of the data security must be carried out while preparing the national identity card. He asked the Home Ministry what the information in the national ID would mean.

"The bill must be drafted without posing threat to personal privacy, and individual and national security," he underscored, adding that timeframe of the replacement of other ID cards should also be mentioned.

Bahadur Singh Lama, who registered for amendment of the bill, said national ID card the government would launch should be flawless, so that no other cards would be required.

BS, AD, and Nepal Sambata- all should be mentioned in the card.

At the programme, Home Ministry Secretary Prem Kumar Rai informed the MPs that distribution of identity card was launched by incorporating all needed data of any individual. According to him, this ID card helps curb crime and maintain law and order. Work plan and budget have been arranged accordingly, he added.
