Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Recommends Dissolution of Federal Parliament
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has recommended the dissolution of the Federal Parliament during the emergency Cabinet meeting on Sunday morning.
The meeting which was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence in Baluwatar decided to recommend the dissolution of Parliament to President Bidya Devi Bhandari, according to a Cabinet minister.
However, Narayankaji Shrestha, spokesperson of the Nepal Communist Party said that such a move is unconstitutional. He objected to the Prime Minister making such a decision in an emergency meeting when all the ministers were not present. Shrestha states that such a move can push the Nepalese political progression backward.
Furthermore, Minendra Rijal also said that the dissolution of the parliament is unconstitutional in the present scenario, given that there is still a possibility of the election of another Prime Minster with majority votes. Hence, Rijal states that the PM's move is pointing towards an unconstitutional practice. Minendra Rijal is a Nepali politician and current member of the House of Representatives. He is a member of the Nepali Congress where he is also a member of the Central Working Committee.
If the dissolution is approved by the President of Nepal, the decision will go to the public mandate and the country might witness political instability.
