The Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project, located in Timure, northern Rasuwa, has successfully conducted its test production, marking a significant milestone.

Constructed underground near the Bhotekoshi River at Tatopani in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-1 and 2, the power house is set to host three turbines with a capacity of 33 MW each.

Project Chief Satyaram Jyakhwa revealed that 52 MW of electricity was generated during the initial test, despite reduced water levels caused by cold weather. Full-capacity generation, utilizing all three units, is expected during the rainy season when water levels rise.

The total cost of the project stands at Rs. 18.69 billion. Although construction began in 2014, progress was delayed by several challenges, including the 2015 earthquake, fuel shortages, floods in the Bhotekoshi River, and highway blockades during the rainy season.

Once fully operational, the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project is expected to significantly enhance Nepal’s renewable energy capacity.
