Reconstruction of Degu Taleju Temple at Patan Durbar Square Completed with Japanese Support
The reconstruction of the historic Degu Taleju temple at Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has been completed. The temple, which was severely damaged in the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake, has been rebuilt, with exterior restoration finalized and interior work ongoing in a second phase, according to Leela Pathak, Chief of the Patan Monuments Conservation and Durbar Supervision Office.
Pathak noted that the Malla-era temple, the tallest in Lalitpur, has been restored to its original design. It will be inaugurated after the interior work is completed and a traditional atonement worship is performed. The Government of Japan provided Rs 130 million for the temple's reconstruction.
Most heritage sites in Lalitpur have been restored, with a few still undergoing rebuilding efforts, Pathak added.
