The Department of Electricity Development (DoED) has revealed that 125 hydropower projects have yet to clear royalty payments amounting to over Rs. 245 million for the fiscal year 2023/24.

In an effort to recover the dues, the department has issued letters to the concerned companies, urging them to settle the outstanding amounts. The DoED collects energy royalty every month and capacity royalty once a year. Hydropower projects are required to pay 2 percent of their total capacity in royalties for the first 15 years and 10 percent thereafter.

Officials have requested project promoters to assist in clearing the dues and help streamline the royalty collection process.
