Sher Bahadur Deuba Suggests Possibility of Constitutional Amendments with Consensus
Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba recently expressed that there is a possibility of amending Nepal's constitution. During a program in Kathmandu, Deuba, who is also a former Prime Minister, highlighted the need for potential amendments to address certain aspects of the constitution. However, he emphasized that any amendments would require broad consensus.
Deuba acknowledged the accomplishments already made under the current constitution, describing it as inclusive. He pointed out that while the fundamental aspects of the constitution might remain unchanged, other areas could be improved through amendments, especially concerning proportional representation. This would ensure inclusivity for those who struggle to win through elections.
Furthermore, Deuba stressed the importance of correcting deficiencies and weaknesses in the constitution to uphold democracy and human rights, aiming to establish a more progressive democratic society in Nepal.
