Supreme Court restores House of Representatives
The Supreme Court has annulled the decision of the government to dissolve the House of Representatives. The constitutional bench of the Supreme Court decided to reinstate the House of Representatives.
The constitutional bench was led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana with Biswambhar Prasad Shrestha, Anil Kumar Sinha, Sapana Malla Pradhan, and Tej Bahadur KC as members.
Reading out the apex court's verdict, Chief Justice Rana also said that a mandamus order has also been issued in the name of the government to summon the session of the parliament within 13 days.
Upon the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, President Bidya Devi Bhandari had on December 20 dissolved the House of Representatives and announced elections. The decision today comes in response to a writ petition registered against the decision at the Supreme Court.
