Swonigha Resort Embarks on Rs 4.75 Billion Five-Star Cultural Tourism Project in Gundu

On the first day of the Nepalese New Year 2082, Swonigha Resort Pvt. Ltd. held a Bhoomi Puja ceremony in Gundu, Suryabinayak Municipality, marking the start of a Rs 4.75 billion tourism project aimed at developing a state-of-the-art five-star resort. The project, under the new brand name “Swonigha,” a Newari term symbolizing the three cities of the Kathmandu Valley, will include an internationally branded five-star hotel, 60 time-share model villas, and recreational and wellness centers.
Designed to promote Nepalese culture, heritage, and nature, the resort will also house an amphitheater, yoga and meditation spaces, cultural exhibits, and sports facilities like rock climbing and biking trails. A highlight of the site is its scenic location, offering panoramic views of the valley and a nearby forested hill resembling the "Sleeping Buddha."
The project is a joint venture between Implementing Experts Group (IEG) and S&JG Holdings (Australia), represented by renowned NRNs Shesh Ghale and Jamuna Ghale Gurung, with involvement from hospitality veterans and past contributors to global cultural projects. The site will also integrate Pilot Baba Ashram, adding a spiritual component to the wellness-focused retreat.
The resort is expected to be completed by November 2027, positioning itself as a major destination for cultural tourism, wellness, destination weddings, and MICE events, while also aiming to uplift the local community.
