A session of the task force, convened to finalize the terms of reference (ToR) for the parliamentary probe committee addressing issues of cooperative fund embezzlement, is presently underway at the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs. Despite previous discussions held on Thursday with a similar aim, the meeting concluded without reaching a definitive conclusion.

The ongoing impasse stems from the opposition Nepali Congress's obstruction of both house meetings. Their demand for the formation of an impartial investigative parliamentary committee is based on allegations implicating Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane. The NC insists on Lamichhane's inclusion in the probe panel.

An agreement was brokered on May 18 between the ruling parties and the opposition NC to establish the probe committee. Task force attendees include Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Padam Giri; CPN (UML) Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula; NC leaders Gyanendra Bahadur Karki and Jeevan Pariyar; and Shishir Khanal of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
