In a significant move, the Indian conglomerate Tata Group has unveiled plans to commence the production of iPhones in India for both domestic consumption and global markets, as announced by the Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
The announcement, made on last Friday, outlined the Tata Group's foray into manufacturing iPhones, a development that showcases India's growing prowess in the global electronics manufacturing sector. Minister Chandrasekhar highlighted the crucial role played by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme in bolstering India's position as a trusted hub for smartphone production and exports.
In a post shared on a social media platform, Chandrasekhar expressed his appreciation for Tata's initiative, stating, "PM @narendramodi Ji's visionary PLI scheme has already propelled India into becoming a trusted & major hub for smartphone manufacturing and exports. Now within just two and a half years, @TataCompanies will now start making iPhones from India for domestic and global markets."
Acknowledging the transition, the Minister praised Tata for taking over Wistron operations, a crucial step in furthering the country's capabilities in high-tech manufacturing. He extended gratitude to Wistron for its prior contributions and commended Apple for its commitment to building a global supply chain with Indian companies playing a pivotal role in the production process.
Chandrasekhar's statement further emphasized the Indian government's wholehearted support for the growth of local Indian electronic companies, which in turn will offer support to global electronic brands seeking to establish India as their trusted manufacturing and talent partner.
