Transportation Disruption Affects Ghodepani Tourism and Local Life
The renowned tourist destination of Ghodepani is facing significant disruptions due to a landslide that has blocked the road from Ghar to Chitre in Annapurna Rural Municipality-5 for the past month. This obstruction has severely impacted both residents and tourists, causing considerable inconvenience.
Ghodepani, a popular site known for its breathtaking views of the majestic mountains, lush Guranse forest, and stunning sunrise at Punhil, attracts over 30,000 foreign tourists and numerous domestic visitors annually. However, the recent roadblock has hindered transportation, affecting the supply of daily essentials to locals, tourists, and local businesses, particularly hotel operators. Tara Pun, a local hotel entrepreneur, expressed concern over the impact on the upcoming tourist season, stating, “The disruption in transportation after the roadblock is a cause for concern, especially as the tourist season approaches.”
The landslide has damaged a 10-meter stretch of the road, rendering it impassable and disrupting vehicular movement. In response to the situation, the Chairman of Annapurna Rural Municipality-6, Ram Bahadur Khadka, has announced that preparations are underway to upgrade an alternative route. This new route, which will connect Ghodepani via Khiwang to Peribharani, is expected to alleviate some of the transportation issues and restore access to the popular tourist destination. Efforts are being made to resolve the current roadblock and ensure that Ghodepani remains accessible for both tourists and locals, preserving its status as a key destination for experiencing Nepal's natural beauty.
