Tukucha river found flowing below theatre hall compound

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has dug the Jai Nepal Hall premises to trace the Tukucha river.
Since the election of Balendra Shah as the Mayor of the KMC, the metropolis has been demolishing illegal structures for the past month. As part of the drive, it has started looking for the Tukucha river that runs through the heart of Kathmandu.
Based on the information that a structure has been built over the river, the KMC carried out the excavation work today. Sunil Lamsal, a member of the secretariat of KMC Mayor Shah, said that the river was found when a dozer was used to dig the theatre hall premises on the basis of marking as per the field map.
Lamsal said that the river which flows through the Narayanhiti palace area is about 12 meters wide but untraceable in the stretch including the Jaya Nepal theatre.
For a long time now, the citizens have been demanding the KMC explore and dismantle structures that have been built by encroaching on the natural flowing rivers in the metropolis.
