The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Government of Nepal, UNICEF, and UN Women, has initiated a new project to enhance earthquake preparedness across Nepal. The two-year project, SUPER II, is funded by the European Union with USD 2.68 million and will benefit over 500,000 people in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, focusing on marginalized groups.
Building on the foundation laid by the earlier SUPER I project, SUPER II aims to strengthen disaster response in urban areas like Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, and Birendranagar. The initiative will improve coordination between local and federal disaster management systems. EU Ambassador Veronique Lorenzo reaffirmed the EU’s dedication to bolstering disaster preparedness in Nepal.
The project will be carried out with the active participation of provincial governments, municipalities, and local organizations, supported by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. UNDP Nepal Resident Representative Kyoko Yokosuka expressed gratitude to the EU for its ongoing support in improving Nepal’s disaster resilience.
