World Investor Week 2024: Empowering Investors in Nepal
The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) is set to host the eighth edition of World Investor Week from November 6 to 12, 2024. Launched in 2017, this initiative aims to promote investment education, raise awareness, and provide crucial information to investors about various aspects of the market. This year’s event will feature participation from 118 member countries of IOSCO and 13 regional and global organizations.
Themed "Basics of Investing, Technology and Digital Finance, and Frauds & Scam Prevention," World Investor Week 2024 will focus on enhancing investor awareness, particularly in areas lacking capital market literacy. The initiative seeks to empower investors by educating them about sustainable finance, fraud prevention, and the latest technological advancements in digital finance. Various programs will be organized in collaboration with stakeholders across the capital market, targeting participants based on demographic and geographical considerations.
This comprehensive program will engage youth students, general investors, and industrialists nationwide, facilitated by various associations, including the Nepal Stock Exchange Ltd., CDS and Clearing, Merchant Bankers Association, Stock Brokers Association of Nepal, and the Nepal Federation of Commerce and Industry. These organizations aim to address wrongful and criminal activities within the securities market while enhancing financial literacy among ordinary investors.
According to recent data, Nepal's capital market boasts a total of 6,381,923 demat account users and 2,194,602 active TMS users for secondary market transactions. These figures represent 21% and 7% of the total population of Nepal, respectively. The Board believes that this week-long international program will significantly empower investors, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the investment landscape safely and effectively.
