Last Trading Day of Year 2078 Ends on Positive Note, A Glimpse Into NEPSE's Overall Performance This Year

Today was the last trading day for the year 2078. With this, Nepal's capital market has completed another year. New records were created this year and a lot of historic records were broken. All in all, NEPSE had a very intriguing year, a year that was not like anything the investment community had witnessed before.
While writing this, we have 51,21,862 Demat accounts in the country, a lot of which were opened during the start of the IPO craze after the nationwide lockdown. In contrast, there were 33,83,669 Demat accounts at the start of the year. Furthermore, only a fraction of these accounts existed before the pandemic.
Daily Summary First
The NEPSE index closed at 2,415 today after gaining 30.24 points from the last trading day's closing. This is a gain of 1.27%. The index had lost 34.79 points yesterday.
The index opened at 2385.24 today and went as low as 2367.02. It then closed at the intraday high of 2415.24.
229 scrips traded hands via 28,945 transactions. Furthermore, a total of 3,398,643 shares exchanged hands amounting to Rs. 1.476 Arba in the turnover amount. This is lower than yesterday's turnover of Rs. 1.524.
SHIVAM CEMENTS LTD (SHIVM) had the highest turnover of Rs. 8.34 crores closing at a market price of Rs. 990.00 per share. The shares of Arun Valley Hydropower Development Co. Ltd.(AHPC) traded the most.
NESDO Sambridha Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (NESDO) gained 10% and hit the positive circuit breaker for the day.
On the other side of things, United IDI Mardi RB Hydropower Limited.(UMRH) lost the highest 2.08% today.
All the sectors closed green, with the "Others Index" gaining the highest of 2.28% and "Mutual Funds" gaining the least 0.44%.
Market Review of 2078 BS
The market in the year 2078 BS opened at 2,735.40 and closed at 2,735.46 on the first day of the year. This was the new all-time high for that time.
The index eventually made an all-time high closing of 3,198.60 on 18th August 2021 (Bhadra 02, 2078). Meanwhile, the all-time highest intraday high was created at 3,226.89 just a day after.
Meanwhile, on the last trading day of the year today, the index has closed at 2,415.24, hence losing 11.7% through the year.
In retrospect, the market in the year 2077 BS had opened at 1,250.95 and closed at 2,714.79, which was the all-time high of that time. With this, the index had gained over 117% in the year 2077.
NEPSE Statistics in the Year 2078 BS
In the year 2078 BS, shares worth over Rs 17.12 Kharba were traded through 1,91,86,034 transactions. The total number of traded shares stands at 3,63,72,47,581. The turnover amount rose by a massive 100.31% this year compared to the previous year.
The Market Capitalization of NEPSE decreased by 9.54% compared to the data in the previous year.
